The CE course will provide an overview of root resorption, including internal and external root resorption. The lecture will focus primarily on multiple idiopathic cervical root resorption, with emphasis on clinical presentation, radiographic and CBCT diagnosis, histologic features, etiology, risk factors, and treatment planning. Special attention will be given to emerging biologic and genetic insights, including the role of odontoclasts/osteoclasts, immune regulation, and a novel Interferon Regulatory Factor 8 mutation associated with multiple idiopathic cervical root resorption. The course will also discuss potential medication-related associations, including therapies that affect bone remodeling and osteoclast function, such as denosumab.
Vivek Thumbigere Math, BDS, PhD, is a board-certified periodontist and Associate Professor in the Division of Periodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He is nationally an internationally recognized for his leadership in periodontology, combining excellence in clinical care, education, and translational research to improve oral and systemic health outcomes. Dr. Math earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India, followed by a PhD and residency training in Periodontology at the University of Minnesota. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the mentorship of Dr. Martha Somerman (former director of NIDCR). At the University of Maryland, Dr. Math provides advanced periodontal and implant care with a strong emphasis on evidence-based, patient-centered treatment. As a passionate educator, Dr. Math mentors dental students and periodontology residents while actively contributing to curriculum development and innovation. His research focuses on periodontal disease pathogenesis, osteoimmunology, and the intersection between oral and systemic diseases. His research program has been continuously supported by competitive NIH funding. He has authored ~50 peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals and is a frequently invited speaker at national and international conferences. Dr. Math serves on multiple NIH study sections and editorial boards, and is currently Associate Editor of Frontiers in Dental Medicine.

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) has been utilized in regenerative dentistry and medicine for over 2 decades and a mainstay in implant dentistry. Recently however, major advancements were made highlighted by the ability to extend the resorption properties from the standard fast-resorbing 2-3 week membranes towards an extended membrane that lasts 4-6 months. Clinical indications and clinical studies have now demonstrated an ability to entire eliminate collagen membranes as a result and also utilize the technology as an all-natural facial filler (the Bio-Filler) as a substitute for standard fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm.
Exosomes have gained enormous popularity within the past few years with over 5’000 publications yearly owing to their ability to dramatically improve tissue regeneration. This talk will focus on the understanding of exosomes including their cell origin, biogenesis, function and characterization. Thereafter, an overview of their application in regenerative dentistry and medicine will be presented including their use as an adjunct to PRF therapy. Exosomes have been utilized for a multitude of degenerative diseases such as periodontal disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, anti-aging, joint injections into knees, shoulders, spines and TMJ, hair loss, facial esthetics and scars. Participants will better understanding the massive potential and opportunity that exists utilizing exosomes in 1) Regenerative periodontology and Implant Dentistry, 2) Facial Esthetics, 3) Hair Regeneration, 4) Joint injections into the TMJ, knees and shoulders, and 5) as potential immunotherapy boosters via IV administration.
Dr. Richard Miron is a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and internationally recognized researcher, educator, and author in the fields of regenerative dentistry and implant therapy. He earned his DDS from Laval University in Canada, followed by a Master’s degree in Cell Biology and a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology. Currently serving as an affiliated professor in the Department of Periodontology at the University of Bern, Switzerland, Dr. Miron is widely known for his pioneering research on Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) and liquid PRF technologies. His primary research interests focus on the application of growth factors for bone and periodontal regeneration. A prolific academic, he has authored or co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed scientific publications and written 11 textbooks on regenerative dentistry, including the bestselling Understanding Platelet Rich Fibrin (2021). His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous honors, including the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Young Investigator of the Year Award in Implant Dentistry in 2015 and the International Team for Implantology (ITI) André Schroeder Research Award in 2016.

This course explores the critical role of soft tissue phenotype in maintaining the health and longevity of both natural teeth and dental implants. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the components of soft tissue phenotypes and their implications for periodontal and peri-implant health. Participants will learn clinical techniques for assessing soft tissue phenotype and the surgical techniques for modifying it to optimize clinical outcomes. This course will equip participants with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and appropriate referrals or recommendations for their patients based on individual tissue phenotypes.
Dr. Anuja Doshi is a board-certified periodontist in the US and Canada. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She received her masters and certificate in Periodontics the Ohio State University (OSU) College of Dentistry, USA and currently serves as the Director of DMD Periodontics at the University of British Columbia. Her commitment to advancing periodontal education has been recognized nationally and internationally. Notably, she received the prestigious AAP Foundation’s Dr. Walter Cohen Teaching Award in 2019, the Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics Award in 2020 and 2024, and the UBC Student-Nominated Teaching Award in 2024 and 2025. Dr. Doshi is also actively involved in organized dentistry, serving on the Board of Directors of the Western Society of Periodontology and on the American Academy of Periodontology Education Committee.
The most common complication during dental procedures is inadequate anesthesia – yet in most cases it is preventable. Practicing Proactive Local Anesthesia means anticipating failure before it occurs rather than relying on a reactive “mix and match” when pain breaks through. This can be done by selecting the best anesthetic agent, best technique and applying an anatomy-based approach for each patient, This course distills the highest-yield, evidence-based insights into maxillary and mandibular anatomy and local anesthetic pharmacology into a focused, immediately applicable framework – equipping clinicians with a proactive strategy for reliably profound, predictable anesthesia. Professor Emeritus Kathy Bassett shares unique insights into successful local anesthesia, informed by the perspectives of both patients and clinicians. She translates current research in pharmacology, anatomy, and pain management into practical techniques clinicians can use immediately. Her expertise is grounded in more than 45 years of experience in general and specialty dental settings as an expanded-functions dental hygienist, as well as her academic roles as Professor Emeritus of Dental Hygiene at Pierce College and Affiliate Professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Kathy is a co-author of Local Anesthesia for Dental Professionals and numerous articles and textbook chapters. Kathy has presented hundreds of continuing education courses for dental hygienists and dentists locally, nationally, and internationally. This hands-on course will cover all the new advancements made with respect to the newest formulations of platelet concentrates. These will cover how to make custom-shaped PRF grafts, how to better concentrate liquid-PRF and will provide a better understanding for optimization of the protocols utilized in every day dental practice.
Thereafter, the Bio-Heat technology will be presented. This will cover the heating steps necessary to extend the working properties of PRF from a fast-resorbing 2-3 week membrane towards a membrane that lasts 4-6 months. Various protocols will be demonstrated whereby clinicians will learn how to make an extended-PRF membrane that lasts 4-6 months, as well as how to make a novel sticky bone that contains an outer e-PRF membrane that may be utilized for ridge augmentation procedures.
