Optimizing Function and Esthetics by Leveraging Digital, Biological, Material and Technical Innovations for Tooth Preservation or Replacement

Homa H. Zadeh, DDS, PhD

COURSE DESCRIPTON:

Patients overwhelmingly prefer preserving their natural teeth when presented with the choice. This presentation delves into the synergistic use of periodontal regenerative therapy alongside clear aligner orthodontic treatment. Through interdisciplinary approaches and evidence-based decision making, the aim is to improve both the esthetics and function of teeth, ensuring their long-term preservation. The integration of biologics and advanced biomaterials, combined with refined techniques like Vestibular Incision Subperiosteal Tunnel Access (VISTA), contributes to achieving optimal esthetics and function. In situations where teeth are beyond salvage or missing, the adoption of a digital workflow proves to be a game-changer, elevating precision and predictability in implant dentistry. This presentation explores the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies such as 3D imaging, artificial intelligence, intraoral scanning, dynamic navigation, 3D design, 3D printing, and milling. The coherent incorporation of these technologies within a digital workflow provides unparalleled advantages. Tailored for the entire dental team, this presentation is suitable for general dentists, periodontists, hygienists, and professionals across diverse dental disciplines. It offers an overview exploration of contemporary techniques, materials, and protocols, empowering participants to navigate the dynamic landscape of dental practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

  • Utilization of biologics, biomaterials, and minimally invasive surgical approaches for periodontal esthetic and functional regeneration.
  • Integration of clear aligner therapy as an adjunct to restorative, periodontal, and implant therapies.
  • Digital workflow for single to full arch implant therapy.

Preventing Tooth Cycle of Death

KIARASH KARIMI DDS

COURSE DESCRIPTON:

One of the most predictive factors in long term survival of a tooth is the amount of tooth structure left. Yet, as clinicians, we often have no hesitation in putting a bur on a tooth and removing healthy tooth structure to create both space and retention for our direct and indirect restorations. We work as if our restorations are permanent, and what we replace the tooth structure with is as good, if not better than the tooth structure itself. By understanding the tooth structure, modern restorative material, and adhesive principles, we can be a lot more conservative in our approach to restorative dentistry. There are various treatment options available.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

  • Tetracycline-stained teeth and bleaching.
  • Resin infiltration. A conservative treatment of white spot lesions, and interproximal caries lesions.
  • Adhesive Onlays vs Conventional Crowns.
  • Deep Margin Elevation vs Crown Lengthening.
  • Repair Vs Redo.

About KIARASH KARIMI:

Dr. Karimi is a board eligible prosthodontist. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine(DMD) degree in 2010 from University of Szeged, in Hungary. He then attended post graduate training in restorative dentistry and earned a certificate in Advanced Clinical Training in Restorative Dentistry from University of California Los Angeles in 2012. He then obtained his DDS degree in the United States from University of Colorado in 2014, After a year of clinical practice, he then completed 3 years of post-doctoral clinical training in Prosthodontics, at Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in 2019. He has been awarded “The Most Accomplished Alumni” in 2015 from University of Szeged, “Max Sosin Scholarship” in 2017 and 2019, and “Howard Landesman” Scholarship in 2018 from USC. His clinical focus is microscopically enhanced, minimally invasive, adhesive, and rubber dam dentistry. He lectures nationally and Internationally on restorative Dentistry and has publications in minimally invasive restorative techniques in journals such as Journal of Operative Dentistry and Journal of Dental Material. He is also an ad hoc reviewer for dental journals such as “Clinical Case Reports.” Dr. Karimi has been a part-time clinical faculty in section of restorative dentistry at UCLA for 5 years, and works as an associate for two private dental offices in southern California. Over the past few years his focus has been on preventive, minimally invasive, adhesive and microscopically enhanced Dentistry.
