COURSE DESCRIPTON:

This is a non invasive biological procedure that can decrease treatment time, cost and complications. The limitations and contraindications are reviewed. The procedure requires piezo electric surgery and tapered implant designs with future concepts using wedge shaped implant designs.

About Giles B. Horrocks:

Dr. Horrocks is the president of the Western Society of Periodontology and past president of the Rocky Mountain Society of Periodontology. He was instrumental in bringing Piezosurgery to the US and has published on the benefits of using precision bone surgery in manipulating alveolar bone to increase bone volume for dental implant placement. He has lectured to both Oral Surgery and Periodontal Societies on soft tissue issues relative to dental implants. He currently maintains a multi-disciplinary practice with three periodontists and two prosthodontists.

Peri-implant diseases are highly prevalent, with peri-implantitis often presenting as a complex and challenging clinical condition. Regenerative therapies offer promising potential for achieving optimal outcomes, but their effectiveness and predictability remain subjects of ongoing debate. This course critically evaluates the efficacy, challenges, and future directions of regenerative approaches, providing an in-depth look at both their potential benefits and limitations in clinical practice. Participants will explore the latest research, clinical outcomes, and case studies, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about incorporating regenerative therapies into their treatment plans for peri-implantitis. By the end of the course, attendees will have a balanced perspective on whether regenerative therapy is a viable treatment option or if it remains more hype than reality in the context of peri-implantitis management.

About Harjit Singh Sehgal:

Dr. Sehgal is the Immediate Past President of the Western Society of Periodontology. He is also an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Predoctoral Periodontics at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Dentistry in Portland, Oregon. A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Sehgal serves as a Board Examiner as well. He directs numerous periodontology courses and teaches both pre-doctoral and postdoctoral students. With over 20 years of clinical and research experience, Dr. Sehgal’s current research focuses on clinical investigations related to CBCT accuracy, electronic health records, dental quality measures, and opioid prescribing behaviors. Dr. Sehgal serves as a reviewer for several prestigious scientific journals, including the Journal of Periodontology, Clinical Advances in Periodontics, Special Care in Dentistry, Journal of Dental Education, and Journal of Advanced Oral Research. He maintains a cutting-edge dental practice limited to periodontics and implant dentistry within the OHSU Faculty Dental Practice. In addition, Dr. Sehgal lectures both nationally and internationally on periodontics, implant dentistry, substance use disorders, and trauma-informed care. Dr. Sehgal has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2015 Educator Award from the American Academy of Periodontology and the 2022 Educator Award from the Western Society of Periodontology.

About Ali Sajadi:

Dr. Ali Sajadi, a native of Houston, TX, is a board-certified Periodontist, Oral and Implant Surgeon specializing in a wide range of periodontal care, oral surgery and facial esthetics. Having received his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and in Economics, he was a noted member of the Forsyth Institute’s Human Genome Project Initiative. After completing two years of biomedical research, Dr. Sajadi embarked on a professional career in medical management that led him to attain his Master of Arts in Medical Sciences Degree from Loyola University of Chicago. Upon graduation, he took on a position as Senior Network Account Manager with UnitedHealthcare, and for 3 years rose through the ranks to become one of the most successful negotiators within the company. Following his passion to help people, Dr. Sajadi completed a 4 year doctorate degree at Indiana University School of dentistry in 2012 and moved back to Houston to complete his residency in Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. There, Dr. Sajadi continued to improve on his skill set by being proficient in all implant and dental surgical modalities with a passion for the rehabilitation and regeneration of periodontal and osseous tissues. Beyond and within the scope of Periodontics and Dentistry, Dr. Sajadi is a published author in the literature and noted speaker for several companies. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontics, Texas Society of Periodontists, Greater Houston Dental Society, Greater Houston Periodontal Society, American Dental Association and the Southwest Society for Periodontists. In many of these organizations, Dr. Sajadi has served as various leadership positions and his professional training and background makes him highly qualified to treat extensive and complex surgical cases. In his free time, Dr. Sajadi loves to cycle, hunt, fish, cook and read. He serves as the founding member and president of the UTH Periodontics Alumni Association and currently serves as the president of the Greater Houston Society of Periodontists.

About Bobby Birdi:

Dr. Birdi received his dental degree from the University of Saskatchewan and his postgraduate specialty training in both periodontics and prosthodontics from the University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow and Examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of both the American Board of Periodontology and the American Board of Prosthodontics. Dr. Birdi has academic affiliations at the University of British Columbia and the University of Minnesota, where he is involved in research projects and clinical trials. Dr. Birdi also lectures internationally on perio-prosthetic implant therapy.Dr. Birdi is the co-founder of the Digital Dentistry Institute and is currently practicing at the BC Perio Dental Health & Implant Centres in Vancouver.

This course aims to enhance the understanding and recognition of domestic violence in healthcare settings, with a focus on identifying signs, understanding legal responsibilities, and providing comprehensive support to victims.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize various forms of domestic violence, including physical, emotional, sexual, economic, and psychological abuse.
  • Identify risk factors and symptoms in patients, with particular attention to vulnerable populations.
  • Understand legal obligations for mandatory reporting, including Florida-specific legislation.

About Deb Goldman:

Deb has been an RDH for over 45 years, she graduated from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL. She worked in private practice in the Tampa area for many years and represented Viadent and Colgate at dental meetings throughout the country. She has worked in Dentistry with her husband Todd since 1992, growing the meeting management, membership, and revenues of several organizations. She has owned a Jazzercise Premier Center for over 40 years. She has four grown children and loves to travel.
