Amir Aalam, DDS
Dr. Aalam graduated with a DDS degree from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, Nice (France). He, subsequently, specialized in Advanced Periodontics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (USA). Dr. Aalam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. The French Society and the California Society of Periodontology awarded Dr. Aalam for his contribution to clinical research in the field of implant dentistry. Audrey L. Boros, MSc., DDS
Dr. Audrey Boros is the laboratory director of Oral Pathology Associates.
Dr. Boros earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and a Master’s of Science in Pathology and Molecular Medicine from Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario). She graduated amongst the top of her class, earning her DDS from The University of Southern California, Ostrow School of Dentistry.
She is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist and an active educator. She is a part-time Assistant Professor at Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Dr. Boros is the immediate past President of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology (SCAOP.
Dr. Matthew S. Bryington, DMD, MS, FACP
Dr. Matthew S. Bryington, DMD, MS, FACP graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2007. He completed his prosthodontic training and received his Master’s in 2010 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an ITI Scholar at Malmö University, Sweden from 2011-2012. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Prosthodontics and Program Director for Advanced Education in Prosthodontics at West Virginia University. His research efforts currently examine the use of digital dentistry workflows to improve implant surgical outcomes.

Douglas N. Dederich BSEE, DDS, MSc, PhD, Cert. Perio.
Dr. Dederich earned a BS in electrical engineering and DDS from the University of Iowa, followed by an MSc and PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Alberta, with his research focusing on laser-tissue interaction. He did his specialty training in periodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He ran a full-time private periodontal practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for over 6 years before assuming the position of Head, Department of Periodontics, at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry from 1998 to 2005. He has served as Acting Chair of the Department of Dentistry at the University of Alberta and is currently Professor and Director of Graduate Periodontology (Clinical) in the School of Dentistry, at the University of Alberta. He also maintains a part-time specialty practice in periodontics and dental implants. His clinical interests also include implant and cosmetic dentistry.
Sillas Duarte, DDS, MS, PhD
Dr. Duarte is Associate Professor and Chairman, Division of Restorative Sciences, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of University of Southern California. Dr. Duarte is also Director of the Advanced Program in Operative and Adhesive Dentistry and the Master of Science in Biomaterials and Digital Dentistry, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of University of Southern California and he is the editor-in-chief of Quintessence of Dental Technology (QDT). Dr. Duarte serves on the editorial boards of other journals, and has lectured and published nationally and internationally on esthetic dentistry and adhesion. He has been involved in teaching cutting edge clinical techniques and technologies related to esthetic and adhesive dentistry. Dr. Duarte’s scientific work has been supported by governmental and commercial grants and he serves as a consultant for several manufacturers.
Dr. Frydman is an Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry in the Division of Periodontology, Diagnostic Sciences and Dental Hygiene and the Division of Restorative Sciences at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC and serves as the Director of Continuing Education at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Dr. Frydman received his dental degree from UCLA and graduated from the Advanced Periodontology Program at USC, where he has since been a faculty member. Dr. Frydman has served on the Education Committee for the AAP, serves as a Board Examiner for American Board of Periodontology and has served as a Task Force member.
Dr. Frydman is involved locally with peer review and has served as a reviewer for the State Board. Dr. Frydman teaches courses in treatment planning and implant therapy for both Advanced Periodontology residents as well as dental students. He lectures nationally and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Maria Galvan
Dr. Maria Galvan obtained her dental degree from University Complutense of Madrid, Spain.
She completed her certificate in Periodontics, as well as her Masters of Science in Craniofacial Biology, at the University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry in 2013.
After graduation, she successfully became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Galvan has held a part time teaching position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the section of Periodontics at the University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.

Todd Goldman is President of Goldman Association Management. He has worked within the dental, publishing and meeting fields for over 27 years. Satish S. Kumar, DMD, MDSc, MS
Dr. Kumar’s educational background includes advanced specialty training in periodontics, oral medicine, temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, all at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Dr. Kumar is a board-certified specialist and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, the American Board of Oral Medicine, and the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Kumar also has a vast experience in teaching and mentoring dental students and residents since 2007. He currently serves as an Associate Professor and Director of Periodontics at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ASDOH), A. T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. Prior to joining ASDOH, Dr. Kumar taught and provided patient care at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of University of Southern California and at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Kumar is a certified evidence reviewer by the ADA Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) where he also teaches the practice of applying best available clinical research evidence to patient care. Anna Matsuishi Pattison, R.D.H., M.S.
Anna Pattison received her B.S. degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Southern California (USC) and her M.S. in Dental Hygiene from Columbia University. She is a Former Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene at the Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC.
Mrs. Pattison is co-author of the textbook, Periodontal Instrumentation and has authored several chapters in the last six editions of Carranza’s Clinical Periodontology. These publications are translated into eight languages and have established Anna Pattison as an expert in periodontal instrumentation. She has also contributed to four editions of Esther Wilkins’ textbook, Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist.
In addition to presenting lecture and hands-on advanced instrumentation courses to practitioners for the past thirty years, Mrs. Pattison is renowned for presenting faculty in-service courses for dental and dental hygiene educators in the U.S. and abroad. She has been a featured speaker for the A.A.P., A.D.A., A.D.H.A., Canadian D.H.A., Canadian Academy of Periodontology, 35 state associations and numerous universities and associations in Canada, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Asia.
Mrs. Pattison is the former Editor-in-Chief of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. Currently, she and her husband, Dr. Gordon Pattison, are Co-Directors of the Pattison Institute which offers online videos, lectures and hands on workshops in the U.S. and abroad.
In 2005, she received the Pfizer-ADHA Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award and the USC School of Dentistry Alumnus of the Year Award. In 2006 she received the California Society of Periodontists Award. In 2010 she was inducted into the USC School of Dentistry Hall of Fame.
Flavia Pirih, DDS
Dr. Pirih is an associate professor in Periodontics at the UCLA School of Dentistry. After receiving her dental degree at Universidade Federal do Parana in Brazil, Dr. Pirih received a PhD in Oral Biology from UCLA. Upon graduation, Dr. Pirih completed residency in Periodontics from the University of Michigan in 2009. Dr. Pirih is currently the director of the pre-doctoral clinical program in Periodontics at UCLA. Dr. Pirih’s main research interests are in periodontal disease and peri-implantitis initiation and development. Dr. Pirih is currently collaborating with investigators at the UCLA the School of Dentistry, the Human Genetics department at the David Geffen School of Medicine and Computer Sciences at UCLA to identify the genetic mediators of periodontitis.

Dimitris N. Tatakis, DDS, PhD
Dr. Tatakis, a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, is Professor and Director of the Advanced Education Program, Division of Periodontology, College of Dentistry, The Ohio State University, and serves as Director for Global Initiatives at the College of Dentistry. Dr. Tatakis completed his dental education at the National University of Athens, Greece. He then attended the State University of New York at Buffalo and graduated with a certificate in Periodontics and a PhD degree in Oral Biology. James Tom, DDS
Dr. James Tom is currently the Immediate Past-President of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA) and holds a full-time Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry position at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Dr. Tom has served as the ADA and ASDA representative on the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Moderate Sedation Guidelines and has authored references on the topics of dental anesthesiology.
