COURSE DESCRIPTON:

To prevent peri-implant complications, professional in-office assessment, maintenance, and home-care recommendations are vital. For long-term implant success clinicians need to detect early signs of implant complications, diagnose any complications to provide early intervention and be able to provide periimplant treatments. This course will follow the global healthy implant initiative for ceramic and titanium implants based on Susan’s Clinical White Paper: Long-term prevention of peri-implant complications and textbook: Peri-Implant Therapy for the Dental Hygienist: First & Second Editions

To prevent peri-implant complications, professional in-office assessment, maintenance, and home-care recommendations are vital. When we recommend a product to our patient, it is because we believe it works! There are many interdental options on the market … from water flossers to floss aids to interdental brushes and more! We must have a clear understanding of the products and how to properly use them. For example, we will learn about the different materials and settings on different devices. We will explore evidence-based research on inter dental care in relation to oral disease. We will feel confident delivering an individualized home care recommendation.

Heather is currently the Professional Relations Manager for TePe Oral Health Care, Inc. She received her MSDH from Idaho State University and BSDH from Indiana University. She has been a hygienist for twelve years working both clinically and in educational settings. Heather has been adjunct faculty at both Pasadena Community College and Pacific University instructing both clinically and in didactic. She also serves on the Advisory Board for the dental hygiene program at Pasadena Community College. She has served and supported the American Dental Hygienists’ Association at both the state and local levels as Treasurer, Trustee, and as a delegate. Heather has presented CE lectures related to homecare and advocacy for underserved populations. She is passionate about dental homecare and developing patient responsibility in managing their personal oral and overall health

We are presented with continuous challenges of new advances in products and technology and their use in dentistry and are in need information to determine when and how to add them into our armamentaria. As professionals providing health services, our perception of product use along with protocols needs to be discussed with our team as well as the interdisciplinary referrals we have. The process of care (assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation) requires a comprehension of protocols, products and treatment options and how they are to be utilized.
