A Clinician's Guide to Guided Bone Regeneration and Management of Esthetic Zone Challenges - Hard and Soft Tissue Applications
presented by: JF "Eric" Hamrick, D.M.D.
Management of Esthetic Zone Challenges
Learning Objectives:
1.  Attendees will gain a broad perspective on when to use resorbable vs. non resorbable barriers in GBR procedures.
2.  Techniques to aid in achieving tension-free closure.
3.  Strategies to help achieve predictable success in more difficult vertical defects with GBR.
4.  When to consider the use of Biologics with GBR procedures.

Management of Esthetic Zone Challenges - Hard and Soft Tissue Applications
Learning Objectives:
1.  Flapless approach to regenerating buccal plate dehiscences in the esthetic zone.
2.  Incision design modifications in maxillary anterior bone grafting to maximize esthetic outcomes.
3.  Risk assessment on Immediate placement of implants in extraction sockets versus delayed
and staged approach in the esthetic zone (a decision tree will be presented).

Dr Hamrick has lectured extensively in US on topics related to bone grafting for implant therapy. Earned BS from Fla Southern College 77, DMD Medical Univ of SC in 82. Periodontal Residency at University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1984. A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Diplomate American Board of Oral Implantology, American College of Dentist, recently authored chapter in new text book on Guided Bone Regeneration and Assistant Professor Department of Periodontics at MUSC school of Dentistry.

Contemporary Periodontal and Peri-implant Plastic Therapy
presented by: Amir Aalam, D.D.S.
Lecture Synopsis:
Soft tissue recession around teeth and Implants is an epidemic problem in the field of dentistry. Multiple challenges exist in proper treatment planning and execution, especially in the esthetic zone. Harvesting limitations of autogenous tissue from the palate represent a true challenge when treating patients with multiple recessions or gingival deformities around teeth and dental implants. A predictable and long-term peri-implant soft tissue augmentation outcome is primarily dependent on proper diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning.

Learning Objectives:
1.  Understand the biological foundation of the advanced platelet-rich fibrin (APRF) used as a periodontal tissue promoter.
2.  Discuss the fibrin soft tissue promotion (FSTP) for the purpose of root coverage.
3.  Understand the need of soft tissue around dental implants to maintain a successful long-term outcome.
4.  Discuss the interplay of mucosal-restorative abutment interplay.
5.  Establish a decision-making tree on when and how to augment peri-implants.

Dr. Aalam graduated with a DDS degree from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, Nice (France). He, subsequently, specialised in Advanced Periodontics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Dr. Aalam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. The French Society and the California Society of Periodontology awarded Dr. Aalam for his contribution to clinical research in the field of implant dentistry. Dr. Aalam is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the USC School of Dentistry in the department of Advanced Periodontics. In 2012, Dr. Aalam was appointed as the USC dental school representative on the Board of Governors. He maintains a private practice in Brentwood CA, limited to Periodontics and Reconstructive Implant Dentistry. Dr. Aalam lectures and publishes in the field of dental implant and site development procedures.

Prognosis for the Periodontally Compromised Tooth
presented by: Thomas J. Kepic, D.D.S., M.S.D.
Course Description:
A Historical Perspective Along With Short and Long-Term Follow up of Cases. Establishing an accurate periodontal prognosis is paramount to case success. Prognosis is often thought of as being “static,” established once, and never to change. However, proper periodontal therapy can alter a tooth’s prognosis, if done in time. This course will show both short and long-term cases where prognosis has changed during therapy.
Learning Objectives:
1.  Identifying the clinical factors used in assigning prognosis.
2.  Understanding the historical research that leads to the modern day concept of prognosis.
3.  Defining the new concept of periodontal diseases and host susceptibility as factors used in determining prognosis.

Thomas J. Kepic, D.D.S., M.S.D. is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is a former Director for the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Kepic was president for the California Society of Periodontists in 2011 and is past president of the WSP. He is a guest lecturer at several universities in the U.S. and abroad and has published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Kepic practices in Upland, California.
